Carmen Boullosa w/ Yolette Garcia at the Latino Cultural Center (Dallas, TX)

In partnership with Deep Vellum Publishing, the Latino Cultural Center will present a conversation with Mexican author Carmen Boullosa and Yolette Garcia, Assistant Dean for External Affairs and Outreach at SMU’s Simmons School of Education and Human Development, on Wednesday, April 6, 2016: reception at 6 pm and lecture and conversation at 7 pm.
Carmen Boullosa is a leading Mexican novelist, poet, and playwright. Her discussion will cover the growth of feminism in a Latin American context in the late 20th Century and will continue to broaden the center’s focus on Latin American female authors.
Yolette Garcia joined SMU’s Annette Caldwell Simmons School of Education and Human Development in 2008 as Assistant Dean for External Affairs and Outreach. She’s responsible for identifying and prioritizing community partnerships and projects for the School. She also develops strategies for communications and promotion. Additionally, she teaches media as an adjunct in the Master of Liberal Studies program at SMU. Garcia comes to her position as a veteran public broadcasting journalist and manager for KERA television and radio. She served the public broadcasting organization in various capacities for 25 years, and won a 1994 national Emmy Award, a 2006 Lone Star Emmy, and in 2002 she was honored by the Press Club of Dallas with the Buck Marryat Award, given for career excellence in journalism.
