Alla Gorbunova: It's the End of the World, My Love

Globus Books is honored to invite you to an interview with Alla Gorbunova, the author of "It's the End of the World, My Love," the winner of a prestigious "Nos(E)" Award in Russia. The English translation by Elina Alter is forthcoming from Deep Vellum Publishing in 2021.

A poet, prose writer, translator, and critic, Gorbunova has published five books of poetry and received the Andrei Bely Prize for her 2019 collection Inside Starfall. Her first collection of short prose, Ings & Oughts, was published in 2017 by the Saint Petersburg publishing house Limbus Press. Her work has been translated into English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Serbian, Danish, Swedish, Finnish, Latvian, Bulgarian, Romanian, and Czech.

“The landscapes of Alla Gorbunova’s poems are both intensely familiar and difficult to map. The cities and the semi-mythical sea of the poems here are ephemeral and at the same time, as acutely specific as dreams. Like dreams, the poems invite and repel - even repeal - interpretation.” - Elina Alter

Alla Gorbunova will present her new book in conversation with Zarina Zabrisky and Elina Alter.

Zarina Zabrisky is the author of three short story collections and a novel "We, Monsters" (Numina Press, 2014). Zabrisky's work appeared in nine countries in over fifty literary magazines and anthologies, including The Nervous Breakdown, A Capella Zoo, Eleven Eleven, The Rumpus, Guernica, and received nominations and awards, including 2013 Acker Awards for Avant-Garde Excellence. Zabrisky runs literary and cultural programs at Globus Books.

Elina Alter is a writer and translator living in New York. Her recent translations from Russian have appeared or are forthcoming in Poetry, Modern Poetry in Translation, the New England Review, The Paris Review Daily, and the Nashville Review. She is an oral history fellow at the Yiddish Book Center and the editor of Circumference, a journal of translation and international culture.
