Join writer Kendra Greene and poet Logen Cure in conversation with Katy Dycus on Saturday, November 12 at 20h CET, to discuss their books -- both important reflections on place, memory, and the stories that build us.
Kendra Greene's The Museum of Whales You Will Never See: And Other Excursions to Iceland's Most Unusual Museums, takes readers across a country shaped by geological forces as bold as the stories told and collected there. Icelanders attach great value to real and imagined objects: birds, stones, polar bears, whales, herring, sea monsters, ghosts, elves and trolls. Greene looks at all of it, wandering a country at once mysterious yet approachable. Her narrative takes us not only into museums but to people's kitchen tables.
Logen Cure's poetry collection, Welcome to Midland, takes us to a very different landscape: West Texas. The book is a queer coming-of-age narrative in verse set against the backdrop of conservative, small-town (and sometimes small-minded) Texas. Her poems also explore the cultural and natural history of West Texas -- with gorgeous illustrations of particular flora and fauna that paint the desert. The book binds up legend, identity and family in powerful ways.
After short readings by both authors, there will be time for conversation and questions.
Mark your calendars. You won't want to miss this event!
