Valzhyna Mort is the author of three poetry collections, most recently Music for the Dead and Resurrected (FSG 2020), which won the International Griffin Poetry Prize and was named a best book of 2020 by The New York Times. Mort has received fellowships from the Guggenheim, Lannan, and Amy Clampitt Foundations and the American Academy in Rome. Born in Minsk, Belarus, Mort writes in English and Belarusian and translates between English, Belarusian, Russian, Ukrainian, and Polish. She received the Gulf Coast Prize in Translation and an NEA translation grant for her work on Polina Barskova’s book of selected poems Air Raid (Ugly Duckling Presse, 2021). Her co-translation (with Hanif Abdurraqib) of Motherfield: Poetry and Belarusian Protest Diary by Julia Cimafiejeva is forthcoming from Deep Vellum Press.
