Join PEN America for an intimate evening with Dr. Eve L. Ewing in conversation about 1919 with national award-winning writer Dr. Sanderia Faye, co-founder of Kimbilio Center for Fiction and co-leader of PEN America/Dallas and Jerry L. Hawkins, Executive Director of Dallas Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation. In 1919, her second collection of poems, Ewing explores the story of the Chicago Race Riot — which lasted eight days and resulted in thirty-eight deaths and almost five hundred injuries — through poems recounting the stories of everyday people trying to survive and thrive in the city. “The genre-busting poet/scholar … combines assiduously research facts and bracing lyricism in this elegiac exploration of the 1919 Chicago Race Riot.” (O Magazine) This evening is being generously hosted by Lauren Embrey.
A donation of $125 is suggested to attend this very special evening. The donation is considered 100 percent tax-deductible and supports PEN America’s mission to defend writers and free expression at a time of unprecedented need. Your generosity is deeply appreciated.
