Novelist Carmen Boullosa in conversation with Deborah Clearman about "The Book of Eve." Boullosa offers a twist on the Book of Genesis that dismantles patriarchy and rebuilds our understanding of the world–from the origin of gastronomy, to the domestication of animals, to the cultivation of land and pleasure–all through the feminine gaze.
Carmen Boullosa is one of Mexico’s leading novelists, poets, and playwrights. She has published seventeen novels, three of which have been published by Deep Vellum in English translation. Also a poet, playwright, essayist, and cultural critic, Boullosa is a Distinguished Lecturer at Macaulay Honors College of CUNY.
“As playful as a mischievous Puck,” says Elena Poniatowska; she has “a heart-stopping command of language,” says Alma Guillermoprieto.
Deborah Clearman is the author of two novels, Remedios and Todos Santos; and, a short fiction collection, Concepción and the Baby Brokers and Other Stories Out of Guatemala. She is the former Program Director for NY Writers Coalition, a nonprofit that gives voice to unheard through the art of writing. She teaches creative writing in senior centers, public housing projects, and jails for women and men on Rikers Island.
