Charleston: Will Evans on the Business of Literature

  • College of Charleston School of Education, Alumni Center 86 Wentworth Street Charleston, SC, 29401 United States (map)

Join Deep Vellum founder and publisher Will Evans at the College of Charleston for a talk on “The Business of Literature: The Inside Story of an Entrepreneur's Success With Translation Publishing.” This event, sponsored by the Department of German and Russian Studies, is free and open to the public.

Will Evans is a publisher, translator and entrepreneur with a knack for finding undertold, outstanding stories and connecting them to audiences. In 2013, Evans founded Deep Vellum Publishing, an indie book publisher dedicated to translating the world's best novels into English. Today, Deep Vellum is the largest publisher of literature in translation in the U.S.

Evans will discuss how he got his start as a literary entrepreneur and how he turned his passion for storytelling into a successful publishing house. He will also speak about the purpose of his work: to bring the world closer together and to help us understand one another through the study of literatures and cultures.
