Deep Vellum is hiring a part-time Development Assistant!

We are seeking a Development Assistant to join our development team at Deep Vellum. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the nonprofit arts community, an interest in crafting narrative that supports artists, and a desire to work in a flexible, self-managed environment.
The Development Assistant will work closely with the Director of Development to grow Deep Vellum’s fundraising and nonprofit outreach within the Dallas community and nationally. A primary responsibility of the Development Assistant will be managing the grantwriting portion of the Development department, as well as maintaining the development database and other records.
Candidates must have excellent writing skills, be detail-oriented and self-managed, and enjoy building relationships. Previous grantwriting experience is encouraged. Additional nonprofit experience is appreciated by not required.
Our Development Assistant will be responsible for the following (not an exhaustive list):
Work with the Director of Development to identify grant and other fundraising opportunities and liaise with grant administrators
Write grants and grant reports and maintain a calendar of grant deadlines and due dates
Prepare and send occasional physical mail to donors and funders from our office in Dallas (approx. twice per month)
Maintain fundraising database, relevant records, and mailing list
Collaborate with Director of Development to organize fundraising campaigns and to create donor and prospect materials
ADDITIONAL NOTE ABOUT RESPONSIBILITIES
Part of the Development Assistant’s role in 2021 will be assisting with a variety of development needs while the Director of Development is on maternity leave. The assistant can expect to work closely with the Director of Development to train in advance of the director’s leave.
LOCATION
While Deep Vellum’s headquarters and executive staff are located in Dallas, Texas, the Development Assistant will work from home except for occasional office visits to complete donor mailings. The assistant will be largely able to work flexibly, during hours convenient for the assistant. Currently, all Deep Vellum staff are all working remotely.

Must be able to perform the essential duties of the position:
Required to move about in an office environment and sit for extended periods of time
Frequent use of hands for data entry/keystrokes

In addition, Deep Vellum celebrates our recent acquisition of Dalkey Archive Press, a list of over 1,000 titles representing the world in literature, including Nobel Prizewinners, translations, fiction/nonfiction, and beyond, which will be integrated into Deep Vellum’s catalog beginning in Spring 2021.
