PUBLICITY DIRECTOR

We are seeking a Publicity Director to join our Marketing team at Deep Vellum and Dalkey Archive. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for the work of independent publishers and translation; experience networking within the literary field; and an enthusiasm for representing Deep Vellum and Dalkey Archive’s titles to the media.

The Publicity Director will work closely with the Marketing/Sales Director and Marketing Coordinator to collaboratively and creatively grow Deep Vellum’s programming, both local and international, and will have agency over media outreach for Deep Vellum’s list, along with our imprints A Strange Object, Dalkey Archive Press, Phoneme, and La Reunion (an impactful, diverse list of 50-60 titles per year). 

Candidates must be detail-oriented, proactive, motivated, and self-managed. Experience with publicity efforts for independent presses is preferred. We are looking above all else for someone creative and enthusiastic who is ready to grow Deep Vellum’s publicity footprint.

Our Publicity Director will be responsible for the following (not an exhaustive list):

  1. Develop and execute publicity campaigns across imprints

  2. Secure local/national/international media coverage (including interviews, essay placements, and reviews) through tailored press materials and pitches

  3. “Cultivate and maintain relationships with key media contacts

  4. Manage media databases, blurbs, and publicity hits in an organized fashion 

  5. Collaboratively organize author tours, events, and festival appearances

  6.  Provide regular PR updates internally and contribute to other department-wide publicity-related duties

REQUIREMENTS

Experience in literary publicity (independent publishing preferred but not necessary)

Proficiency in, or ability to become proficient in: email marketing software (Deep Vellum and Dalkey Archive use Emma), Microsoft Office, Dropbox

Required travel: occasional travel to conferences, festivals, and in-person publicity meetings when necessary

LOCATION

Must be located in Dallas, Texas or New York City.

COMPENSATION

The salary range for this position is $50,000-$60,000
