Deep Vellum is hiring a Publicity and Programming Manager!

We are seeking a Publicity and Programming Manager to join our Marketing team at Deep Vellum. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for reading; a desire to network within the literary field; and an enthusiasm for networking and representing Deep Vellum’s titles to the media.
The Publicity and Programming Manager will work closely with the Marketing and Sales Director to collaboratively and creatively grow Deep Vellum’s programming, both local and national, and will have agency over media outreach for Deep Vellum’s list, along with our imprints A Strange Object, Dalkey Archive, Phoneme, and La Reunion (a fast-growing list of approximately 50 titles a year, in total).
Candidates must be detail-oriented, proactive, motivated, and self-managed. Experience within the field (former publicity positions and/or internships) is appreciated but not necessary. We are looking above all else for someone creative and enthusiastic who is ready to grow Deep Vellum’s publicity footprint.
Our Publicity and Programming Manager will be responsible for the following (not an exhaustive list):
1. Work with Marketing and Sales Director to create and support comprehensive publicity, event, and social media plans for front list titles across all imprints
2. Collaboratively organize and pitch events and festival appearances for authors
3. Manage author tours (virtually until safe to return to physical tours) from a distance
4. Manage and grow media databases
5. Develop tailored press materials (including press releases, email pitches, etc.) while overseeing review copy mailings from a distance
6. Pitch books to media contacts by email and phone, alongside in-person meetings when safe to do so
7. Archive Deep Vellum publicity in an organized, up-to-date fashion
8. Be proficient in, or work to become proficient in: Mailchimp, Sales Force, Microsoft Office, Dropbox
9. Required travel: occasional travel to conferences, festivals, and in-person publicity meetings when necessary
LOCATION
While Deep Vellum’s headquarters and executive staff are located in Dallas, Texas, remote applications are accepted. Deep Vellum staff are all working remotely and regular presence in the office will not be required in 2021; return to in-person is anticipated in 2022. Relocation assistance is possible.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to perform the essential duties of the position:
Required to move about in an office environment and sit for extended periods of time
Frequent use of hands for data entry/keystrokes
Must be able to lift and transport ~30 lbs occasionally (transportation of books at festivals and conferences)
